On 5-6 October 2017, EURALIUS in collaboration with the School of Magistrates organized a second training on “Trial in absentia in the light of Article 6 of the European Convention of Human Rights and European Court of Human Rights Case Law”. The first training was organized on 13-14 April 2017, where more than 40 Albanian judges and prosecutors participated. Considering the high interest of judges and prosecutors, EURALIUS in collaboration with the School of Magistrates organized a second round, where 60 judges and prosecutors participated. They were acquainted with various topics on the subject, which were presented by international and national experts. EURALIUS short term Experts, Mr. Stefan Trunk, Senior Prosecutor at the Prosecution Office of Duisburg and Mr. Michael Bolz, Senior Prosecutor at the Prosecution Office of Frankfurt, presented respectively the meaning of sentence in absentia for the principle of mutual recognition within the EU legal framework, including the minimal standard and the German legal framework concerning trial in absentia. Albanian experts presented trial in absentia according to the Albanian legislation, its novelties after the new amendments of the Criminal Procedure Code. The training will be illustrated with practical case studies and will lead to discussions among the participants.
